One week or so ago, it was a beautiful sunny day (we remember it because they don't come often). It was such a lovely and beautiful day that we were all having a very hard time practicing and concentrating on the work at hand.
When our lunch break finally arrived, everyone was ready to go out! The beach was decided upon as the location and we all promised each other we would soon go home to practice more...
After hiking to the beach and exploring tide pools, everyone settled down on a particularly sunny patch of rocks out of the wind. After a while of soaking up the sunshine however, Quinn and I decided we needed to do something with all the rocks lying around.
After hauling rock after rock (and getting mom and dad to help as well!) for 45 minutes, we stood back and surveyed our work. Black beach rocks carefully fitted together formed a nitch on the beach, perfect for a fire or (as Quinn said) the starting point for building a castle.
After some careful thought, we decided we weren't quite done yet, and we decided to gather large flat rocks and make a floor for our newly built mini-cottage.
Of course, this sparked ideas of stone walled cottages and inspiring ideas for rock walled gardens (to which mom and dad agreed Emily and Quinn would need to design and build...).
Quinn decided to name our heroic fort as follows:
(The Fort of the Zahaskys) |
Once we decided it was done, we nestled inside and watched the sun slowly set down deeper and deeper.
Abigail was so excited to ride a high rope swing, that she got the hiccups! She hiccuped the whole time (and the whole way home) until able to get a glass of water and straw (a good hiccup remedy: drink through a straw while plugging both your ears. Believe us, it works!)
Everyone enjoyed the sunshine, and by the time we got around to leaving, we realized that the day had gotten away from us and we had spent all the rest of our practice time at the beach! Oh well...we weren't too disappointed.
Nope. Not disappointed at all.
Beautiful photos! Looks like such a fun way to spend the afternoon; practice can always happen tomorrow. Enjoy those lovely Alaskan days. (I just can't imagine seeing those views every day!)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Donna! I believe God made sure it rained a lot here so that when the sun came out, the locals would stand in awe! It's easy to forget what a lovely place we're blessed to live in, that's why its nice to work with tourists - they always remind us that we're blessed!
